Ben Nevis
The highest mountain in the UK and located just behind Fort William, the perfect place for a wander whilst staying at Torcastle House. With a route all the way to the top or if you are just looking for a local stroll, Ben Nevis has everything. We recommend climbing in the summer months unless you are an experienced mountaineer, as Scottish weather can make the climb a challenge.

Nevis Range
Nevis Range gives you access to Aonach Mor by Gondola, transporting visitors 2150ft beside Ben Nevis to an all-season activity mountain centre. With the World Cup Downhill Mountain Bike track, walking routes and a High Wire Adventure, there is something suitable for all ages to enjoy. During the winter months Nevis Range is the perfect place for skiing and snowboarding with ski school available for the slopes.

Lochaber
Lochaber is the Outdoor Capital of the UK and has a range of activities to keep you busy, from mountain biking to triathlons, there is always something to do across Lochaber. For climbers, you can brush up on your skills or face a new challenge at the Indoor Ice Wall at the Ice Factor, Kinlochleven lessons are available for all levels of ability.
Lochaber Geopark
A unique geological landmark, the Geopark at Lochaber is a collection of mountains, lochs, rivers, coasts, cliffs and sandy beach which have been shaped by the local geology over millions of years. Find out about the dramatic landscapes formed by ancient mountains, glaciers presence and blazing volcanic activity by visiting Lochaber Geopark during your stay at Torcastle House.

Cycling, Mountain Biking & Quad Biking
Cycling and Mountain Biking is very popular in the local area and we have Nevis Cycles to sort out all your biking needs – be it hire or repairs. With 5 routes, the Great Glen Route is an ideal local cycling path with tracked and rural options for cyclists of all abilities.
For something a bit different, why not take a quad bike tour through the local area? Quad Bike Tours offer quads or 4×4 buggies for short or long tours around forests, through hilly terrain, or following rivers in Fort William.

Canoeing and Kayaking
Canoeing and kayaking trips are accessible during your stay at Torcastle House, with Rockhopper Scotland available to provide equipment, organise activities or host half or full days out. They are a local company to Fort William and offer tours in Loch Linnhe or Open Sea adventures.

Local Walks
Many walks are around Fort William if the mountains are too much of a challenge. You can take a picnic and enjoy watching the boats at Neptune’s Staircase or wander up Glen Nevis. The Walk Highlands website has directions for a good and varied number of walks nearby; find Fort William and Lochaber walking routes or check out The Great Glen Way. If you are looking for guided walking tours then Up and Doon Guided Walks are fantastic and offer guided tours in Lochaber, including a route to Steall Waterfall.
Tor Castle
Although Tor Castle is a ruin and has been for centuries, the history in the ancient castle is remarkable. Once belonging to Banquo- who also became a MacBeth character, Tor Castle makes a wonderful, leisurely walk from Torcastle Bed & Breakfast.

Wildlife
The immediate area holds an abundance of wildlife and fauna such as Pine Marten, Red deer, Roe deer, Otter, Owls, Buzzard, Butterflies, Kingfisher and Orchid, mosses and lichens. Wild West offer safari trips in the local area to spot some of the incredible local residents surrounding Torcastle House. Boat trips to the islands of Skye, Eigg, Canna, Rum and Muck are well worth it on a sunny day, and Minch Adventures are a local family run business who offer incredible tours around the West Coast, or try a boat trip down Loch Shiel with Highland Cruises who offer the experience of spotting Golden Eagles, Red Deer, Black-throated Divers, plus a wide variety of other wildlife, while learning the history of this special, remote and unspoiled part of the Highlands of Scotland.
